After selling them for 35 years, it appears to us that most Mossberg 835 owners only use their shotguns during Waterfowl and Turkey Seasons. To us, that's a waste of good shotgun. Here is Mossberg's 24 inch blued 835 barrel with rifle sights, combined with a Choate Machine Tool Magazine Extension that will turn that shotgun into a formidable defense piece, capable of propelling 800 to 900 .22 caliber projectiles in less than 3 seconds. Barrel manufacturer is O.F. Mossberg of Torreon, Mexico, where all of Mossberg’s barrels have been produced for the past 30 years. Importer and warrantor is O.F. Mossberg & Sons of Eagle Pass, Texas. Magazine tube kit manufacturer is Choate Machine & Tool of Bald Knob, Arkansas, product number 02-04-24. Barrel construction is entirely steel. Extension construction is steel as well, except for the black polymer tube cap, and replacement high visibility orange polymer shell follower. Barrel's factory number is 90800. This barrel has a uniform .727 diameter smooth bore, and the factory advertises it as a Slugster. Folk had best not try slugs in other 835 barrels, only this variant. Sight system is welded steel ramp front, and factory issue Williams two piece, 700 type rear that is windage and elevation adjustable. On the tube, a standard model 835 Pump Mossberg holds 4 each 2 3/4 inch shells in its factory magazine tube. Installing the Choate tube assembly ups that count to 8 in the pipe, yielding an 8+1 capacity on 2 3/4 inch shells. For 3 inch shells, make that 7+1; and on 3 1/2 inch shells, 6 + 1. The +1 means one in the chamber. Choate steel clamp ensures stability and even has a sling swivel, but of course it will eventually wear the finish. Barrel finish is brushed surface blued steel; magazine tube finish is parkerized. Replacement pricing on the barrel is $181 on mossberg com; replacement pricing on magazine extension kits often approaches $150.00.
