This one owner Colt was purchased new in the seventies and at one point had been returned to Colt to have a three-inch barrel fitted.
I did not bother lettering this piece as its history was already known and there is no question that it would come back as a four-inch Python, likely from 1974 but possibly 1973.
The piece remains 100% factory Colt, in 99% condition.
The original factory Royal Blue has not been altered nor has it been refinished.
As told by the owner, this piece has fired a few cylinders on a dozen occasions. His guess was three hundred rounds in total.
The bore and cylinders are pristine and bright, the cylinder shows a fine turn-line. No carbon fouling at the cylinders rear charge holes, nor at the barrel forcing cone or the frames inside top strap. There is no heavy wear of the finish anywhere in the cylinder window or the cylinder, in-fact everything looks near brand new.
Lock-up is as firm and solid as when it left the factory. The timing is exact. The Colt Royal Blue finish shows minor handling marks, mostly from the time before micro-fiber cloths arrived. No dings or damage.
I had a few collectors inspect the piece, all came to the same determination, that the piece is 100% factory and unmolested.
So, I cannot state strongly enough that there is zero doubt as to this Colt being a 100% factory Colt Python which has not been re-touched or refinished in anyway.
In short, a near flawless, very stunning, original factory Colt Python in pristine condition that can be had at half the cost of the next one with an accompanying Colt archive letter. This remains the only difference.
For anyone who doesn’t wish to invest as much, this is the perfect 3” Python, and it will only appreciate in value.
