Description: From Air Force military security duty comes this Smith & Wesson .38 Military & Police Stainless, numbered model 64, Second Engineering Change. From its 1D96000 range serial number, it was manufactured in 1980, under Bangor Punta corporate ownership. Type is traditional double and single action, medium frame revolver. Construction is entirely steel metal. Chambering is .38 Smith & Wesson Special and .38 Special +P interchangeably, with 6 round cylinder capacity. Barrel is 2 inch tapered one piece, pinned into the frame, with 5 groove 1:18.75 right hand rifling. Sights are barrel integral serrated ramp front on solid rib, with frame integral fixed notch rear. Ignition is hammer nose type. Safety system is internal transfer bar. Trigger is .265 serrated face, with matching serrated spur service hammer. Grips are original factory walnut magna service type. Cylinder length is 1.560 long by 1.449 diameter. Overall length is 7 1/8 inches by 5 inches height. Weight empty is 28 ounces, with center of gravity at the trigger. Finish is retouched surface stainless steel, with matching satin chrome hammer and trigger. Surface detractions are moderate, normal carry wear that includes a dozen or so surface pings, along with grip panel scouring. We rate this 64 as Very Good Condition, 75 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. We estimate it was fired fewer than 800 times for annual qualification, between the time it was issued in 1980, and retired some 30 years later. Blast effect to the under side of the frame's top strap directly above the barrel's forcing cone is minimal. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright and clean. Double action pull is smooth and consistent 11 pound vicinity, and the hammer travels an additional 5 to 10 degrees on all six positions after the cylinder times into place. On single action, the hammer travels 20 degrees on all 6 after the cylinder times, and single action trigger pull gauges a crisp 5 pounds. Cylinder face to forcing cone gap measures.005. Lateral cylinder play is negligible with the trigger relaxed; with the trigger fully depressed, there is no lateral play whatsoever. Replacement pricing for the current production model 64s is $689 on smith-wesson com, and there have been no 2 inch 64s produced now for a decade. We're offering the 64-2 Stainless 2 inch in the photos, however, for only $ 439.00. Not transferable to civilian residents of California or Massachusetts. 2% Discount if payment is with USPS Money Order & Not Credit Card, discount good for lay-aways, too. Don't try, either, to circumvent any law; for example, a California civilian may not buy a high capacity magazine and have it shipped to his brother-in-law in Nevada. That is a felony.
