I have no idea what this is. Marked IDEAL MFG CO/MIDDLEFIELD CONN. U.S.A. on one side of lever that leads to original wood handle and PAT MAY 31 92 on the other side of lever. It has a shiny steel tube 1-1/4 in diameter by 4-1/4 long (not counting parts that are covered by black painted cast iron at either end). Item is in excellent condition with all the original pain, no rust. Original wood handle. The handle works and presses a small shaft into a receptacle. Ex Jimmy Stamatelos collection. Jimmy paid $185 for it in 1990 (the old tag is still on it), and Jimmy was an extremely knowledgable life time collector and did not overpay for stuff. $200 1990 dollars are currently worth $382.92 in Feb. 2017 dollars. That comes to $354 in 2017 money. Whatever this is I have to believe it is extremely rare and it is in excellent condition. It has been sitting in a box with other Ideal tools since 1990.
