Description: From a mid-west sale, a very nice Antique Full Stock Kentucky style flintlock rifle appox. 52 caliber smooth bore. The barrel is maker signed "J. Fondersmith." At the sale they said John Fondersmith worked as a gunsmith in Lancaster County Pennsylvania from 1779 to 1803. With the gun is an original 1803 court document listing John Fondersmith's occupation as a gunsmith. The tiger stripe maple stock is nice with no cracks or chips and has a very thin profile (see photos). The metal finish is a mottled brown patina with some oxidation (see photos). The gun is 61" over all length with a 46" round barrel (What I can see of the bore looks dark....I have not cleaned this gun). There is a fixed rear sight and a blade front sight. The plain brass Lancaster County style fixtures include a crescent butt plate, trigger guard, side plate, thimbles and nose cap which have a mellow unpolished patina. The lock is stamped "I. KELLER." The trigger and lock function as they should. The wooden ram rod appears original and matches the gun. At the sale they said this gun has been in a collection for a long time. The court document measures 13-1/4" x 8-1/4" with some minor losses to edges and some of the folds are split and the frame measures 15" x 20."
