This is a United States No.4 Mk1* Enfield rifle Caliber .303 manufactured by Savage Arms during WWII. It is stamped "US PROPERTY" on the top edge of the receiver. These rifles were supplied to the UK under the Lend-Lease program during the Second World War. The property markings existed solely to maintain the pretense that American equipment was being lent to the UK rather than permanently sold to them. This rifle is coming from an estate. The collector purchase the rifle in the early 1990’s put it away and did not fire it. Rifle appears to be an all Savage Enfield rifle. All serial numbers are matching. Magazine has no serial number probably a WWII replacement.Stock, front sight, magazine well, bolt and barrel bands are marked with the Savage “S”. The U.S. ordinance flaming bomb is stamped on the side of the receiver. Barrel has a two groove bore that is in excellent condition: bright, no pitting and sharp lands. No manufacture date on rifle. It is believed undated rifles were made in 1943. Has flip up rear peep sight for 300 or 600 meters. Has the correct cast butt plate. Has a very small hard to find import mark on the barrel muzzle. Comes with a WWII Enfield spike bayonet along with the original distributor shipping box. Savage Enfield’s in this condition are getting harder to find. Rifle should be a good addition to any WWII collector or a good shooter. Credit cards 3.2% via PayPal. Rifle can be sold on a Curio & Relic ffl. Many additional photos on request.
