It retains 98+% original issue condition. It was purchased new in the mid-1970's It has never been fired, simply displayed in a beautiful walnut case, along with the rest of the collection. This silver mounted 1851 features a 7 1/2" blued barrel and beautiful case-colored frame.The box is in very good condition, for attic storage. The gun contains the correct factory manual and Colt BP lapel pin. This pin is, I believe, the culprit in the horizontal scratch on the barrel, from shifting in the box, while moving. This gun has not seen any extensive cleaning in some time. I have wiped down the boxes and LIGHTLY cleaned the gun and inspected it. It exhibits several minor handling marks, tarnishing of the grip straps/trigger guards, etc. That said, anyone would be proud of this beautiful pistol!
