The first year of production for H&R was 1953. The serial number on the receiver puts the manufacture of the rifle as 1953. This rifle was one of the first 34,000 produced by H&R. In 1953 only 500 H&R rifles were delivered to the US armed forces. Barrel is dated Springfield Armory(SA) August 1953. H&R used some SA parts including barrels. This barrel maybe original or a replacement. Bolt and operating rod are Springfield Armory(SA) manufactured. Trigger housing is SA with an SA hammer. Bore is bright with no pitting or corrosion. Stock is solid with no cracks. Hand guards are solid with no cracks. Throat Reading: 2+. Muzzle Reading: 1+. Rifle has no import mark. This rifle has gone through at least one maybe more US military reworks so many original parts have been replaced. Credit cards 3.5%. This M1 would make a good shooter or collector item.
