Description: NEWS FLASH -- FOOL SHOOTS OFF LITTLE FINGER

It wasn't the Steyr, it was my Ruger. Still, Mama says "That's it!"

This is my pristine 9mm Steyr GB. If you know what they are, then, of course, I don't have to describe one. Elsewise:

In 1981 Austria announced a competition for a new 9mm pistol for their military forces. Steyr-Mannlicher developed the GB. GB stands for "Gas Bremse" which is, in English, Gas Blowback. It is NOT a polymer frame; it is all steel except for grips, which ARE steel on a few later pieces, and the trigger guard, which is plastic, apparently because steel guards cost a lot to make.

Rather than having a slide moved by inertia on the round, there are gas ports in the barrel. These ports allow a portion of the gases )Gas Blowback) to drive the slide back. The barrel, itself, is fixed in the weapon and stationary. Therefore, only the slide moves, not the barrel. The gas blowback and low bore axis combine to make the GB a very soft shooting gun, perhaps the lowest kick of any 9mm pistol.

It has a 5-3/8" barrel and 6-3/8" site radius. Serious weaponry here. Fixed front luminous dot and fixed rear double dot square notch sighting. 8-1/2" long, 5-5/8" high, 1-7/16" wide. 1 lb 14 oz, without mag. Mag is 4 oz empty, 12 oz. loaded, so 2 lb.10 oz. loaded.

DA/SA. DA trigger pull is 7.2 oz. VERY SHORT reset, like 3/8", with 2.2 oz. single action pull. Sweet as can be. Greatest trigger I've every handled.

I also have two 90% military GB's, can make package deal.

These suckers are definitively accurate. I won't make any wild claims; but, I DO happen to own two more of them and they will shoot 1" groups at 25 yards. I'm 68, bald, fat, tired and retired and wear glasses, so you go figure. Anyway, Steyr brought out the gun in 1982 and looked like a shoe-in on the competition until a former Mannlicher employee developed HIS version of a 9mm, with a polymer frame. His name? Gaston Glock. The rest is history.

Glock filled the market. The GB is an excellent piece but was at least $200 more than a Glock and the price point, due to the high quality of the solid steel weapon, could not compete. Gun South quit importing them, and to find them in the US is not particularly easy. I have heard various numbers between 15,000 and 18,000 for the actual number imported.

This is an early model. You can tell from the serial number AND the date. It is dated BEFORE Steyr had date "codes", so it is stamped X1182 for November, 1982. I cannot believe it has ever been fired, but I cannot swear to its never having been fired. I got it without the box and with only one magazine, and that's the way I'm selling it. The only marks on the piece are magazine scratches from people ejecting/inserting, and one scratch, hard to see because it's so tiny, up by the front sight. The bore is cleaner than anything I've seen including my new Henry and TriStar long guns.

I'm selling it because, it's clean and I have two others. I'll I'll mail to your FFL in the USA for free. If you're out of the USA, I'm sorry. If you're in unfriendly states like CA, CT, CO, etc., I'm sorry, 18 rounds. I can ship the pistol without magazine to most places.

Email me for more pictures Search "Steyr Selbstladepistole GB 9x19" and you can find the factory PDF. The thing only has 46 parts. Seriously, only forty-six. It is an engineering marvel. It is a great gun and you would enjoy it a lot if your into solid steel 9mm weapons.
