This is a very scarce percussion musket chambered in what appears to be .69 caliber (18mm?). The gun was made circa 1850’s. Not much information is known about these rifles but it is a wonderful piece of craftsmanship. 33 ½” HEAVY octagon barrel is amazing! It measures 28mm from flat to flat. It has a very good bore with strong rifling; Doesn’t look like there is a lot of surface wear inside. Barrel is fitted with original sights. No ramrod. The sidelock is very good without markings. Hammer cocks and holds with a strong forceful snap forward. Very unique connecting bolt coming through on left side. This rifle has double triggers; original set trigger intact, however main trigger has been replaced with literal “hair pin”. Trigger guard has been customized with a “finger rest” bar on right side of “hair pin” trigger. Trigger pull is extremely light! Original stock is very good without damage; light overall wear. Raised cheek rest on right side; nice checkering on the wrist. Stock has holes on both the bottom of the butt stock and midway down there “fore-end” where there were once sling studs. Unique nose cap under the muzzle is made of horn. Handsome brass crescent buttplate is intact and very nice. This Is an amazing piece of craftsmanship that will be certainly be appreciated wherever it goes!
