No sooner had Smith & Wesson introduced its Third Generation Autos in 1988, than Hogue Grip company fitted them with a slightly fatter but incredibly good feeling pliable rubber grip system. The Hogues have their own high impact polymer mainspring rod cup that holds the mechanism securely, and the grip panels slot in firmly and hold securely via the MSH system. Frequently, a person will need to trim the center of the polymer piece so that the original grip retaining pin will fit through it more easily; one should not, as our photographer has been known to do, hammer the pin and wind up cracking the pistol’s frame. Hogue fitted the Smith & Wesson 9mm and .40 pistols innovatively, and thousands of civilian and law enforcement owners alike have come to rely on their products. Photo shows brand new specimens of Hogue # 40010, that fit 5900 and 4000 type full service size automatic pistols chambered in 9mm or .40 S&W Caliber. These grips will not fit the compact variants, and they will not fit First and Second generation guns like the 39, 59, 459 or 659; they are for models 5903, 5906, 5943, 5946, 4003, 4006, 4043, 4046 and variants with identical grip frames.
