These pistols were widely used for a number of years by police and military forces around the world. This pistol is very similar in outward appearance to the 1911 Colt in .45 acp. However, the internals have been greatly simplified in the Star. And in one way, actually improved. The Star Super has a simple take-down lever above the trigger that releases the slide when the lever is in the forward position. (Just a note here: the pistol can not be disassembled with the magazine inserted.) Also, there is no grip safety. The pistol doesn't use the .45 acp cartridge; it uses the 9mm Largo, which is slightly bigger than the 9mm Luger (9x23 vs 9x19). The caliber, although unusual now but quite common in the past, is available both in surplus as well as new manufacture. In terms of ballistics, the 9mm Largo is roughly equivalent to a 124 gr. 9mm traveling around 1200+ ft/sec. (It is my understanding that the Super will also chamber a Colt .38 auto cartridge, but I've not confirmed that myself.) The pistol has been cleaned and oiled and function tested. Bore is good, recoil spring has adequate tension, pistol locks up fine, extractor and ejector work just fine. These are fun pistols to shoot and a nice addition to any military surplus collection.
