This Listing is for the exact shotgun in the photos. The co-star of the Movie Terminator 2 Judgment Day was the Winchester Repeating Arms model of 1887 Lever Action Shotgun. The 1887 was one of John Moses Browning’s signature developments. Folk often called it the Rosebox shotgun. Here is a well executed, very slick copy of the 1887 Winchester Lever Action 12 gauge. It retains the look and feel of the Old West Cowboy shotgun while constructed with modern high-tensile steel. Manufacturer is ZhongZhou Machine Works of the People’s Republic of China. Importer and warrantor is Century Arms in the former Republic of Vermont. Type is falling breech, tube fed lever action shotgun. Construction is entirely steel metal, with dark stained hardwood buttstock and forend panels. Barrel is 20 inch uniform bore, with .722 cylinder bore muzzle. Sights are brass bead front against concave receiver integral rear. Front sights are always canted 1 to 3 degrees from true level on these shotguns. Chambering is 12 gauge, 2 3/4 inch shells only, and the barrel is clearly stamped, Lead Shot Only. Magazine Capacity is 4 + 1. Weight empty is 7 pounds 12 ounces, with center of gravity at the breech face. Ignition is hammer fired; trigger is a thin .150 smooth face, and the photo specimen pulled at 7 1/2 pounds with moderate felt creep. We estimate the cocking motion requires 20 pounds or so of pressure. This shotgun is not designed for operators with diminished hand strength. Safety system is lever safety, akin to Browning’s other designs. Hammer is low profile short serrated spur .365 width. Buttstock length of pull is 13 inches from the trigger face to the end of the 1/2 inch black polymer buttplate. Stock drop is 2 1/2 inches at the comb and 3 inches at the butt, with a 3/4 inch right hand cant. It is otherwise southpaw friendly. This shotgun comes to us from Century Arms’s Distribution system, where it served light duty as a display or test piece. Surface detractions are moderate, principally its buttstock heel has been dressed down and partially refinished. Apart from that, it has faint contact scouring on its wood, and operation wear on its hammer spur and lever system. We rate it as Very Good, perhaps even Excellent, 85 to 90 percent vicinity by our estimate. Photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright and clean. We estimate it was fired fewer than 50 times. Replacement pricing on an original Winchester will be in the 4 figure range.
