Description: J.P. Sauer & Sohn (Suhl) 16 gauge. From the estate of Tom Siatos, serial number 331955 features a scalloped boxlock action with side clips, 27.5-inch barrels choked C/IC, 2.5-inch chambers, ejectors, automatic safety, cocking indicators, splinter forend with modest Schnabel (ebony) tip, sling loops, fine bordered checkering and English stock. Wood figure is excellent. ENGRAVING: The action has game-scene engraving (three flying ducks on right and three gamecock on left) within bordered scroll, the supporting pattern continuing over the forend furniture, extension, top lever, guard, tangs and screws. DIMENSIONS: Weight is 6.0 pounds, length-of-pull is 14.1 inches, drops are 1.5 and 2.4 inches, and cast off is approximately .375-inch. CONDITION: Bores are pristine and barrels are firmly on face. Ejectors are brisk, safety and triggers snappy and the top lever closes right of center. Engraving is tack sharp. Thought to be professionally restored, barrel rust blue is 99 percent. Action colors are at least 85 percent, guard/tang blue is 95 percent and wood finish/integrity is at least 90 percent with a few field impressions and slight thinning to the finish. The butt plate shows almost as new. MARKINGS: Serial (matching) appears on forend iron, water table and barrel. Barrel flats show "643" and the rear lug "4KC". There are no import markings. TOM SIATOS (1) spent the majority of his life in close association with firearms and hunting. His professional contributions, tremendous category knowledge, bottomless enthusiasm and bold personality influenced the firearms industry and outdoor media to such a degree that it remains a viable force today. Tom was the second editor of Guns & Ammo Magazine. As such, he was responsible for the general tone of the iconic publication. A consummate hunter, spectacular all-around shot and true connoisseur of fine firearms, his interests spanned the full spectrum of the shooting sports. In 1942, Tom enlisted in the Marine Corps. He served in units that scouted and destroyed isolated enemy communication sites on a number of Pacific islands, eventually receiving a battlefield commission. After concluding his service, he attended UCLA and later joined the fledgling Petersen’s Publishing Company in 1958. A series of promotions led to him to become vice president of the Petersen’s Publishing Outdoor Division, which thrived under his leadership. Tom Siatos was a mentor, visionary, leader, father figure and a true original. We will never see his like again. The price is firm and layaway is available.
