From the late 1980s until the early years of the present Millennium, Taurus marketed several of their medium frame revolvers with a Round Butt Grip frame. These were 2 inch, 2 1/2 inch, and 3 inch revolvers chambered in .357 Magnum, .41 Magnum, and .44 Special Calibers. Models included 65, 66, 44, 431, and 608. Please see the attached comparative round butt vs square butt photos to tell the difference. Here are what was left of Taurus International’s grips for those specific revolvers with round butt grip frames. Many of us call them Magna Service size, a Smith & Wesson term. Manufacturer was Forjas Taurus of Porto Alegre Brazil, and Importer was Taurus International of Miami. Construction is Brazilian Goncalo Alves exotic hardwood, with brass Taurus Bull Logo Medallions with polymer back discs, and steel screws and escutcheons. Each set comes in a factory package that is mislabeled. The grips in the photos and their identical production mates have never been sold or issued, but they have been in storage in Miami for 10 years now, and will show faint superficial wear to their back edges. Even though they are new, they are old stock. These will only fit Taurus models 65, 66, 44, 431, and 608 variants that have a round butt grip frame like the frames showing in our photos. They will Not fit a Small Frame Taurus like the model 85 series. They will not fit a Tracker. They will Not fit current production square butt models of the Taurus. They will Not fit old model Taurus 80 and 82 revolvers with round butts because of the position of the mainspring cup like the 1975 model 80 whose grip frame shows in our photos. They will only fit Medium Frame Taurus Revolvers with a round butt grip frame. Your revolver should measure 2 7/8 inches grip frame height from the edge of its butt to the highest point in the round recess of the grip frame; and 1 1/2 inch across the lower edge of the butt itself. These grips give the advantage of good looks, control, compactness, and capability to accept a Tyler Grip #3R Adapter for a Smith & Wesson K Frame Round Butt Revolver. Their disadvantage, of course, will be in felt recoil with no rubber between the grip frame and the shooter’s palm. Once these are gone, there will not be any more.
