So, we know that this rifle went straight to a combat unit going into the war. This because at that point in the war, there was a critical shortage of rifles, but especially of M1 Rifles. After being in combat, the rifle was returned to the US and pulled out again for the Korean War. We know that because it got a new made, Feb. 1953 barrel. The wear gauge shows a #1+ reading on the muzzle and a #1 reading on the throat. This rifle is very accurate. Besides having the WWII, Lock Bar rear sights, it has the "P" in the circle, Proof mark and a #21 Infantry rack marking on the butt of the grip. The stock parts are WWII type walnut and have handsome grain. Later stocks were hard woods, stained with walnut stain. This historic rifle and ones like it are rapidly disappearing from the marketplace, so do not wait too long to get yours. contact sashe at cfl. rr. com use the @ symbol and leave out spaces to get more details and photos.
