Description:
Browning, Year 1988, 12 Gauge, 6lbs 13oz, SN# 325PP01071
The Browning Superposed is one of the finest over/under shotguns in history and one of John Browning’s most prolific designs. Produced in plain jane field grades to the most elaborately engraved and finely stocked shotguns ever seen, production of the Browning Superposed was done in Belgium, running strong from 1931 through 1977 when regular production stopped. It was in that year FN of Belgium took ownership of the Browning Arms Corp. and became the sole producer of the famous Superposed Browning. A lot changed as they tried to turn an unprofitable endeavor into a profitable on. This era became the era of the Presentation Grade offerings in the Browning Superposed line. Most of these guns no longer had the fine hand engraving that the Superposed was known for, but instead were acid etched engraved with the resulting lack of detail and beauty. Only the highest grades received the hand engraving from the master engravers that makes them so valuable to the shooter/collector today. This fine Browning is a SPECIAL SPORTING MODEL, the B2G, that is fully hand engraved by Maria Calabrese (signed by her) and was stocked with nicely figured French walnut. It was imported into the USA by Browning in 1988 and is one of the higher grades in a batch of about 3000 guns that came here with European features. These B2G models are highly desirable and have unique features, ie. the action is rounded exactly like the coveted Super Light, field grade chokes with a set of barrels that have a wider rib, a very light weight of 6lbs. 12oz. with 27 ½” barrels, a graceful slim forend with a slight Schnabel flair at the end, long tang trigger guard, and way nicer wood figure than what was being shipped on the Presentation grade guns. This gun, sn325PP01071 built in 1988, is in superb factory original condition, still retaining 98% of the French grey with only a small loss on the top lever (we can re-gray that if you wish), 98% factory blue on the barrels, and most all of the hand rubbed oil finish that was applied at the time of production. Weighing just 6 ¾ lbs. and balanced perfectly on the hinge pin, this gun is almost ½ pound lighter than the Superposed Lightning! That makes a difference by the end of the day and it is a very desirable feature for the upland bird hunter. This gun is in superb mechanical condition with strong ejectors, crisp trigger, perfect bores, still nice and tight on the hinge pin and breech face with the lever right of center. See the specs below. This grade of Browning Superposed is rarely encountered, so don’t miss out on owning one of the few that comes up for sale.
