Serial Number: 130628

Here we have a nice find in an ANTIQUE MARLIN 1893 DELUXE RIFLE in the desirable .38-55 caliber, sn130628, built in 1895. There are very few Marlin 1893 rifles documented with the pistol grip stock, nicely checkered at the factory, with a case-colored action. There are fewer yet that are found in excellent mechanical condition with excellent bore showing strong rifling, mostly shiny, with a light frosting throughout. And, even fewer yet that are untouched, unmolested in any way since being shipped from the factory. That is what we have here in our presented Marlin Deluxe Rifle. Cody Firearms Museum has scant information on the Marlin rifles, mostly just the ship date, barrel length, caliber, and sometimes stock style. Marlin enthusiasts are aware of this, and even engraved guns rarely have a mention of engraving. The Cody info sheet we have does document this rifle precisely as it is, including the pistol grip stock. We have stripped this rifle to its smallest parts, Ultrasonic cleaned all parts to remove dried grease and 126 years of grunge, inspected each part for integrity and function, lubricated all and reassembled. THIS RIFLE IS IN EXCELLENT MECHANICAL CONDITION AND ALL PARTS ARE ORIGINAL TO THE GUN. The exterior still shows some case color on the frame, lever, and hammer, very notable in some places. The barrel and magazine tube retains over 90% of the factory blue. The Lyman #5 combo front sight and Lyman #1 tang peep sight are proper for the era of this rifle. The gun has some light pitting throughout, as shown in the photos, most notably on the original crescent steel buttplate. The trigger is crisp, and the bore is quite bright and has very strong rifling. This gun is a shooter! It should be accurate with its excellent bore and crisp trigger. The screws are in excellent shape, are original to the gun, and if you look at the loading gate it still retains most of its original blue. The wood is in superb condition, with the original varnish still intact, only a few scratches, and no splits, cracks, or repairs. Really remarkable wood with strong factory checkering that has never been recut. Upon very thorough inspection it seems that the light freckling throughout the gun is a result of poor storage and a century of neglect rather than heavy use. If you like to find antique rifles in their original condition, unaltered in anyway, with deluxe features, this is a rifle for you. With its 26” full octagon barrel and full magazine tube, she wreaks of the cowboy days and the era when there were no cars or trucks, and travel was still via horseback. We have priced this one so even a person with moderate funds to invest can have a honest Marlin Deluxe without breaking the bank. Thanks for looking!
