These holsters are for Left Handed shooters or officers. From a 2007 trade, where the North Carolina Department of Corrections exchanged their 4 inch barreled Smith & Wesson model 65 revolvers for semi automatics, comes only a few dozen units they kept for their left handed officers. Manufacturer was Gould & Goodrich, in their original factory in Massachusetts, since moved to Lillington, NC. Production was around 1990, from the B letter prefix serial numbers on most of the model 65s, that we sold too cheap, and wish we had back. Construction is two ply genuine leather, real American Cow, black dyed with glossy exterior, average thickness from .125 to .140 inch. Stitching is heavy dyed cotton cord, with chrome and black steel and brass snap. Model number is G&G’s FZE 34LH, but the style is what competitor J.M. Bucheimer Company called the Federal Man: a high ride holster that will fit a 2 1/4 inch Sam Browne belt, but usually worn with 1 1/2 inch to 1 3/4 inch wide Garrison Belt or just normal uniform belt. The Federal Man style is conspicuous for its long thumb break tab, that facilitates fast drawing from under a jacket or suit coat. This type holster had its heyday in the 1970s and early 1980s, up until the tidal wave of semi automatics swept over law enforcement. These holsters will accommodate most medium frame six shot double action revolvers with 4 inch barrels, including Smith & Wessons model 10, 12, 13, 15, 18, 19, 64, 65, 66, 67, 581, 681, 686, and the 3 prefix lightweight variants. They will accommodate Taurus models 65, 66, 80, and 82, and similar sized Tauruses, even the 5 shot Big Bore Trackers. They are also a good fit for Ruger Speed Six, Security Six, and Service Six Revolvers. Since the interiors are not soft leather lined, they will eventually cause finish wear to the muzzles and cylinders of blue and nickel finished guns. They will not accommodate single actions, or revolvers with longer than 4 inch barrels. If a person has a full lug barreled 4 inch revolver, he or she needs to grease the interior, put forth some effort, and allow for about one month of stretching time. Surface detractions on these holsters is minimal to moderate, they have been held in reserve more than they’ve been used. We rate them as Very Good, close to Excellent Condition, and photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Stitching and thumb strap closure is excellent on all of them. Buyers will receive a holster from the same lot as the ones in the photos. The Australian Federal Police model 681 showing in some of our photos is Not included, but it did not require any stretching or straining to fit.
