It has a 69. caliber smooth bore barrel with a back action lock. The lock plate is marked Mre Nle de Mutzig, and the stock is stamped M.N. in a circle. Front band and spring are missing and both sling swivels are frozen in place. Surface rust and pitting throughout metal components. Inscribed on the stock is the name JOHN with 'guide' lines and additional marks proceeding it. Whomever John was, he didn’t get to finish the inscription. It’s the unfinished story to this musket that intrigued me to buy it in the first place. Trigger action is still tight and functions fine. Excellent conversation piece.
