The top of buttplate is stamped “U.S. 4654” I was told that this was a rack number and could be traced to the original soldier it was issued to. I have traced the serial to the NY volunteer infantry. The trap in the buttstock holds a small screwdriver/wrench combo marked “U.S. Mod. 1879”. Has ramrod style bayonet. The stock has the usual usage dings for an old gun. There are no cracks, splits, or repairs that I can see. The gun locks up tight and shoots well. If you have any questions, please email.
