 NORTHWEST FRONTIER OF INDIA JEZIAL
Description: This is a nice Jezial made along the Northwest Frontier of India.  It is very colorful with brass barrel bands and designs.  The original flintlock was made by native craftsmen and decorated with primative writing designed to resemble the heart-shaped trade mark of the East India Company and the word "TOWER."  They did this because the East India Company locks were very desirable because of their well hardened frizzens which were famous for always throwing a good spark.  (I have a blunderbuss listed with one of these original EIC locks.)  Tribesmen in this area prized these locks for their workmanship and reliability.  The trigger and front sling attachment are made of Ivory or bone.  Still has its original leather sling attached.  A nice representative specimen.
