LATE WAR KRIEGS MODEL K98 (unissued?) Guns > Rifles > Mauser Rifles > German
Description: This 8X57 Mauser is as fine as any I've seen!

The Krieg model differs from the normal K98 in that it has no ramrod or bayonet lug. There is no importer mark and no stamps over the numbers and Nazi marks. With mismatched bolt and no import marks it was probably a GI capture gun. On the receiver is "DOT 1944" (Waffen-Werkes, Brun A.G.). Several Waffen eagle stamps with ser.#12617. I believe the two other numbers -63, 63 below eagles are proof marks. Barrel is marked KM with waffenstamp eagle below. Bolt is numbered 4532 on body and tiny 63 above eagle at back. There is an obscure mark on the right stock that I can't fully read. Magazine floorplate is marked "byf" (Oberndorf).

As a piece of military history this rifle accurately chronicles German late-war production -- laminated stock, stamped parts, hurried-machining and rough wood working.

Nevertheless, it is an irresistable weapon. Condition is as it came out of the arsenal--all metal parts have original black, bore is unsullied and wood perfect. Sling is a correct (new)aftermarket one. If it weren't for the mismatched bolt I would say it was never issued as it shows absolutely no signs of use.
