Smith & Wesson Model 65-3 Stainless 4 inch .357 VG Mfg. 1987 Guns > Pistols > Smith & Wesson Revolvers > Full Frame Revolver
Description: The best we can make of Supica’s and Nahas’s serialization in the Standard Catalog, is that AVA prefix model 65s like this one were manufactured in mid 1987. We consider this 65-4 to be in Very Good Condition. This revolver is a Department veteran, issue #67. The number is inscribed on the butt of the replacement Michaels grip, and also inconspicuously on the flat underside of the barrel above the cylinder rod, along with it reiterated serial number. This revolver is one of several that were rack-locked daily, and evidence of that shows by the roughness on either side of the trigger guard and on the strap area, right side plate. We consider that about 30 percent of this revolver’s surface area is affected by contact evidence. Vestiges of the original streaked finish remain visible on the cylinder surface and barrel lug where the cylinder rod anchors. The satin stainless trigger and hammer are Excellent, with about 90 percent of their original finish remaining. We consider this revolver to be Very Good mechanically. Blast evidence to the underside of the frame topstrap directly above the forcing cone is .0025 deep by our estimate, and extends for about 80 percent of the width of the topstrap. Lateral movement of the cylinder, or wobble, in locked position is about 2 mm. Double action trigger pull is moderately stiff but consistent; and the hammer travels another 5 to 10 degrees on double action after the cylinder times into place. On single action, the trigger pull is light – about 3 pounds – and crisp; and the hammer travels a full 15 to 20 degrees after the cylinder times in that mode. The bore and cylinder chambers are excellent. This is a very decent, eminently serviceable model 65 Smith & Wesson. It comes in a factory generic brown box with the appropriate bar-coded label. We have seen no evidence whatsoever of lead shaving or fouling; and we’re offering it for only $299.95
