Springfield Model 1842 ( Rifled for Civil War ) Percussion Musket 69 cal Bore VG plus strong shiny rifling, Mech VG plus, Wood VG plus with faint cartouche. Has a 42” Rd barrel with bayonet lug, orig. Sling swivels, Strong 1852 date and proof markings. Has a US marked buttplate and the lockplate has excellent Eagle ,US and Springfield 1853 markings. The ramrod looks correct but may not be an original. Metal overall has an aged grey finish with fine pitting in areas. A Few 42 muskets were rifled and issued to volunteers in the Civil War.
