Fox Patent, American Arms Co. Orig COACH GUN 1877 Guns > Shotguns > Fox Shotguns

Very rare, an original NOT CUT Coach Gun, 22" barrels, Fox patent, American Arms Co. model 1877, 12 Ga, 2 3/4" chambers, open cyls, SxS Shotgun. Featuring 22 inch Damascus barrels, exclusive patent side swivel opening breech with extractors. (this feature also rare in itself) These Shoguns were considered top quality SxS's and not cheap untility guns, the fit, finish and smoothness of the action speak for itself. The rail of the slide has a small crack, that goes nowhere and affects nothing, but just should be noted, it is the only flaw on this item, but like I said affects no function of the gun at all and only can be seen when the barrels are all the way to the right and only if you look real good. This is a Fox Patent Shotgun Mfg by American Arms co., 103 Milk St., Boston, MA. They chambered these hammer guns with 2 1/2", 2 3/4" and 3" chambers as noted in their catalog of 1878. Bores are nice/clean, tight action, nice walnut wood, with a few dings here and there. Nice checkering slightly smooth over the diamonds, ribbed hard rubber buttplate. Mechanics are excellent. These original Coach guns are very hard to come buy as most that you find were cut downs, this one is a real heavy Howitzer. You can see by the end of the muzzle the tight barrel to barrel marriage. A cut SxS would show metal gap between barrels. This is an un-messed with SxS and all original. Shows a little case colors in hidden areas with most finish turn to a brown to silvery patina. have many more photos available if needed on all angles. Serial number is #2123. The first model came out in 1877, this one was probably mfg anywhere between the end of 1877 and end of 1878. Comes with a reproduction Fox/American Arms catalog dated 1878, with details inside about the action, options, features etc.. I can only imagine that this was used as a jail house / guard gun or some other inside law enforcement work, train guard, or Wells Fargo of those days, as the condition is too good to have "ridden shotgun" on a Western Coach but it was made for defense/offense work not bird hunting.
