Serially numbered L7271xx, it was manufactured by our estimate in the late 1970s, certainly no later than 1981, when the model was discontinued in this configuration, blue and walnut. This specimen has a 28 inch barrel with factory Winchoke, a plain barrel, making it one of the least common varieties of the Model 1200. We consider that this shotgun is in Very Good condition, with 80 to 85 percent of its original finish remaining. Exterior surface of the barrel has one lightly scratched area on the right side, not conspicuous but about 6 inches long on its right side, 2 inches forward of the barrel lug. There are another half dozen or so smaller scuffs, mostly on the top and left side of the barrel behind the lug. Receiver’s finish is weak from its original condition, but is a nice grayish colour. The walnut forend has scuffs and mars that affect about 15 percent of its surface area, none of them deep. Similarly, the buttstock has one roughed area on its right side, about 6 inches by 2.5 inches, but little of the finish is broken in that area. Pressed checkering is strong throughout, and there are no cracks in the wood. Bore, chamber and mechanism are excellent.
