Thank you for your observation, however on this S&W only the barrel Cylinder and working parts are steel, The balance of the gun, is brass. Only steel can rust and pit. There is no pitting of the barrel or cylinder and the markings on teh top of the barrel are crisp and sharp. The receiver and grip frame are brass. Brass Does Not Rust or Pit. The serial number on the butt are crisp and sharp and show no signs of polish. There are a few mars in the receiver. Brass is softer than steel.
