Maynard Model 1873 Improved Hunting or Target Rifle No. 9, caliber .35-30 (thick rim cartridge). Lever lock, tip-up, single shot, takedown rifle. Serial number 15497 on tang and under barrel, both matching. Vernier tang 0 - 120 peep sight, open rear barrel sight with v-notch and dovetail, and (not beach), but globe front sight. Re; Flayderman’s, The Beach front sight was standard, but this gun has the improved globe front sight with ball on post. All sights in excellent working order. 26-inch part round, part octagon barrel, bore is very good, sharp rifling, no pits or craters. Plain trigger, exposed high spur hammer. Straight walnut stock with oil finish. Carbine-type butt plate. Marked “MANUFACTURED BY / MASS. ARMS CO. / CHICOPEE FALLS” on right front of receiver. Also marked “EDWARD MAYNARD / PATENTEE / 1873 / MAY 27, 1851 / DEC 6, 1859” Barrel showing a couple superficial scratches through the bluing, but bluing is 98% coverage. Casehardened receiver is mottled gray as is lever and trigger tang. Markings on gun are sharp and clear other than the “Maynard” marking on the left side due to a shallow stamping. The stock has superficial dents and scratches, nothing too significant. Right side of the stock has four visible dents/scratches, nothing which would impair strength, no cracks. This gun is in excellent functional condition, would make both a fine addition to a collection as well as an excellent shooter. Cartridge shown in photo is just an example of an 1873 Maynard cartridge, (but is a .40-40 cartridge), it does not go with the gun. NRA Grade is Antique Fine. No FFL Necessary. Thank You For Bidding!
