Colt SAA Artillery Model, black powder, pre-1898, 45 Colt cartridge. Artillery model Type 1ahas all mixed serial numbers with 5.5” barrel. Serial numbers: On butt is “100,” and a faint “100” between the serial number and buttscrew “47719,” forward of trigger guard, on trigger guard plate (beneath that are inspector’s initial “H.N” “116196,” with the initials “D.F.C.” on frame, forward of trigger guard; “4315” on barrel, under ejection rod assembly; “D.F.C” and “P” (at 90 degree angle to DFC) on bottom of barrel, in line with the cylinder pin, and ; “9508” on cylinder. Markings on barrel, one line; “Colt’s PT. F.A. Mfg. Co. Hartford CT. USA. -” On loading gate is assembly number “313.” On right side of frame, under grip, is inspector’s mark “U.” Left side of frame has three patent dates: 1871, 1872 and 1875, and the US” stamp. Bore and rifling are VG; bright, no pitting. Left-hand twist. Chambers are very clear; no pitting. A prior owner coarse-checkered the grips (one piece grip), long ago. The cylinder pin may be a replacement - it looks too new. The gun shows a repair around the cylinder pin screw, but it’s a very professional job - barely noticeable. There’s a slight bend to the front sight blade. Bluing is about 95% coverage overall, not a high polish blue, but very utilitarian. Wear to the blue is mostly holster wear at the muzzle and a small amount of bolt drag wear on the cylinder. Some mars on the metal - likely prior to rebuilding at the Springfield Armory. Functionally excellent, including half-cock. NRA Antiques Condition VG. No FFL required. See: “Colt Single Action Army Revolver,” Kopec, starting on p. 240. Thank You For Bidding!
