Colt SAA Black Powder Commercial .41 caliber revolver, serial number 125xxx, made in 1888. This revolver is completely original; nothing refinished or replaced. Black gutta percha (hard rubber) grips. Barrel is 5 ½”. Bore is very good; a few small pits near muzzle. The left, front leg of the trigger guard has “44,” overstamped with “41.” This is not unusual (See: “A Study of the Colt Single Action Revolver,” Kopec, starting on page 54). Inspector’s initial, G,” on the face of the cylinder. Short cylinder flutes. Standard barrel marking, one-line block letters: “-COLT’s PT. F.A. MFG Co HARTFORD CT U.S.A.-” Grips are proper and original, with Rampant Colt and Eagle with Shield. They are slightly worn, but checkering is still visible (not worn smooth). Left grip has a few small mars, the right one has a little more wear. There is a small chip in the butt of the right grip, near the toe. Overall, the metal is showing a few mars; some in the underside of the barrel, and erosion in the loading lever housing (looks like improper storage on cloth, which left a pattern). Barrel coloring is mostly mottled, maybe 10% bluing remains near the receiver. The receiver is showing some case coloring in protected areas. Trigger guard assembly is showing about 10% blue. Loading gate has assembly number of 271. Early civilian-type hammer, with relatively short cross-hatched spur (Kopec, p. 272). The cylinder is in very good condition; minor spotting in chambers. Excellent functional condition, with the exception of half-cock. Screwheads sre in very good condition. Overall, NRA Antiques condition is Very Good. No FFL required. Thank You For Bidding!
