This is a Fayettevile Standard type 4,.58 cal. rifled musket. 5000 made between 1862-1865. This was produced in 1864 at the Fayetteville Armory from captured parts by the Confederate Troops at the U.S. Arsenal, Harper's Ferry, West Virginia. The stock is walnut in excellent condition with no sign of repairs or alterations, and also displays a Military Cartouche with the letters of PB in script inside an oval border (Harper's Ferry?). The original factory finish is intact and is in excellent condition, bore has very good rifleing, with some pitting, lock functions like new, some pitting on barrel but taken care of previously, does not appear to be a pieced together old gun, all parts fit correctly so I believe this is a complete and original 1864 musket. I HAVE HAD THIS APPRAISED AND VERFIED BY A KNOWN APPRAISER AND EXPERT ON U.S. MILITARY ANTIQUES! I have several pictures and I can scan the appraisal as well, just ask.
