Pilot Observer Badge by Assmann Non-Guns > Military > Badges
Description: The Observer's Badge was instituted on March 26th, 1936, and was awarded upon completion of 2 months qualifying service, or after five operational flights in the capacity of an observer, navigator or bombadier. Oval, vaulted, right half of laurel leaves and the left side of oak leaves. The wreath has mounted upon it an eagle in a watching attitude, oxydized old silver plated (fading with a lot of patina), clutching a swastika in its claws. The eagle is rivited to the wreath on each side where the wings make a juncture. On the reverse is a vertical, oxydized hinged pin which is soldered on. The reverse of the badge is hallmarked with the Assmann symbol. Nickel Silver medal is heavy and has very nice detailing, early war patterns are not easy to find! Wreath measures 53mm X 42mm, with a wingspan of 53mm on the eagle. Highly desirable find in Excellent condition!
