This nice Smith & Wesson Model 65-5 Stainless .357 was manufactured, according to Supica’s and Nahas’s serialization, either some time late in 1994 or 1995. We consider it to be a strong Very Good, perhaps even Excellent. It has some holster buffing effect visible on close inspection on the muzzle sides and cylinder surface. The MIM-predecessor hammer and trigger finish has light inconspicuous toning that affects about 15 percent of these parts’ surface – and this may be original to the revolver. The main detraction to us is a few light scratches adjacent to the forward side plate screw where the revolver was serviced by the Agency Armorer. The Michaels grips are likely original, and they have scuffing that affect perhaps 20 percent of their area. Its bore and cylinder chambers are excellent. Blast effect to the frame top strap underside, directly above the forcing cone, is minimal – it amounts to carbon blacking with no indication of cutting.
This revolver is mechanically excellent. Its hammer travels another 5 degrees after the cylinder times into place on double action, and about 15 degrees on Single Action. Double action is normal, tight but consistent; and single action trigger pull is crisp and about 4 pounds. This revolver comes in a correctly labeled generic brown Smith & Wesson box.
