WEATHERBY SOUTHGATE 300 WEATHERBY .... Made for the president of Timken when they were supplying Weatherby with barrels. This gun would have been used by the president of Timken roller bearing in his hunts with the famour Harry Selby who also guided Robert Ruark through most of Ruark's Africa hunts. This gun is one of the finest Roy Weatherby ever made and rivals the one he made for the Shaw of Iran. This one is slighty better quality but not quite as ornate. Arnold Griebel was selected as the engraver because he was the finest in the U.S. at that time. (Please se GA listing #92872663, for another example of Griebel's exquisite engraving on a Bob Owen's custom 30-06 rifle.) Exquisite engraving in the Germanic style with gold line work which borders oak leaves and frames center pannel depicting the most life like bear in a forest scene you could ever imagine. Stock is exquisitely detailed with slightly carved border and skip line checkering. Four tri-color inlays of perfection execution further enhance this magnificent piece of full Fiddleback California walnut. Scoped with Bausch & Lomb Balvar 8. Near mint and impossible to duplicate today. One of the finest rifles ever manufactured.
