The markings are as follows: Right side of Butt Stock - "Pimlico 1858" in a circle around a Crown and VR. The opposing broad arrows are stamped right in the center of this circle. There is a large number "2" to the right of the circle. The left side of the stock near the lock plate screw escutchens is stamped with the names, "A. Bateman" and "J.G.D. Lee" which are probably the names of troopers this carbine was assigned to at different times. The butt plate is stamped with "24SR" over the number "3". The lock plate is stamped "1856 Tower" and a small Crown over the letter "V" in front of the hammer and a large Crown over "VR" behind the hammer. The barrel breech is heavily pitted from extensive black powder use but the markings that are visable are the letter "B" over the number "9", a small Crown over broad arrow, a larger letter "S", a small Crown over "B1", a small letter "T" and the opposing broad arrow stamp. It is 42-1/2 inches long overall with a 26 inch, unrifled, .62 caliber barrel. Except for the pitting on the breech of the barrel the metal surface is nicely patined from the rear sight forward. It is missing the barrel tang screw, one lock screw, and the ramrod. It has the typical dents and dings from combat use. This is a real piece of British history.
