Here is the pistol that began the revolution in semi-auto handguns 25 years ago. There were reasons for that, and the reasons are evident on close inspection of this specimen of the 92FS Pistol. Until 1985 or so, Colt and Browning 9mms would not handle hollowpoints. Smith & Wesson 39 and 59 series pistols would, but the Smiths did not capture the market's imagination, perhaps due to the feel of the 59. Here was a pistol that looked good, felt good, and would handle sharp-nosed Federal and Smith & Wesson Hollowpoint ammo. It was, and is, extremely simply made, very easy to field strip and clean. This particular 92FS is a relatively recent production specimen, mid to late 1990s, from its serial number range. It has the highly desirable steel guide rod and steel magazine release that stand out from its plastic-equipped descendants. It has two Law Enforcement Ban Period Magazines, both 15 round high capacity, and both factory Beretta. Barrel is 5 inch Government size, and sights are MMC Factory Night Sights, Tritum 3 Dot with 2/3 strength luminosity by our estimate from our dark room inspection. Grips are factory Logo Hogue Wrap-around combat with moderate surface scouring mostly on the right side. We rate this pistol as a strong Very Good, since it has only moderate holster wear on its sharp edges, and slide contact buffing on the forward exterior of the barrel. We rate it at 80 to 85 percent finishwise; photos, however, should suffice for prospective owners to judge finish grade for themselves. It is excellent mechanically. Bore, chamber, magazines and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. Replacement pricing on the Beretta 92FS in our area in excess of $600 on these. Don't let your buddies use your account. Registered user must be the buyer, with his or her own money. Buying firearms and related items for other people can result in felony charges.
