The constituent feature of the Rolling Thunder variant is obvious in our photos, Mossberg’s distinctive aluminum alloy muzzle stabilizer with 22 ports that helps eliminate muzzle flip, and carries a 12-slot 5 inch Picatinny rail on its underside. The 500 Cruiser’s 18 inch barrel is threaded with a locking collar bearing four set screws that insures performance stability. Other features are matte blue finish with perforated removable heat shield; offhand forend sling for surer control firing from the hip; Magazine capacity 5 + 1 on 2 3/4 inch shells or 4 + 1 on 6 inch shells; factory polyemer cruiser pistol grip with sling swivel stud; black anodized alloy 500 receiver with classic Mossberg top tang safety that is southpaw friendly. Barrel, magazine tube and internal parts are steel, while the grigger housing is high impact polymer. All 500 receivers manufactured in the past 30 years or so are 4-position drilled and tapped for optics mounting. Overall length with the Rolling Thunder stabilizer is 32 1/2 inches, and about 27 inches overall with the stabilizer removed. Weight empty is 7 pounds 2 ounces, up only a few ounces from normal cruiser weight. Shotgun in the photo and its identical mates are what the factory calls demos; these were among the 2010 Shot show and salesman’s samples. Until we got them, they had never been out of Mossberg Corporate custody. Each has a 6 month factory warranty. They come in a factory box, a re-box, with instruction manual and Mossberg Cable lock.
