New Haven made Winchester Featherweight Classic in 30-06. The gun is new in the box with all papers, etc -not a mark on it.
The rifle was made before the New Haven plant closed in early 2006. From the serial number range, I think this one was made in 2004.
What is interesting about this gun is it is one of 50 units of long action m70s that were shipped with ONE PIECE STEEL Williams bottom metal. Those units at the time cost nearly $150 each.
This was done as a stop gap measure to fill in production between the older two piece aluminum factory assemblies and the newer one piece aluminum units coming online. Mr. Williams is the source for this information.
The rifle has dark ,satin finished walnut-tight grained and quarter sawn. This rifle was inspected by a well known rifle smith for function. I passed with flying colors- no quality issues with this rifle.
