Here is a genuine Government Issue U.S. M6 Bayonet and M8-A1 Sheath. Pommel marking is simply U.S. M6 and beneath the blade simply the word Aerial, for Aerial Cutlery Company in Wisconsin, one of the government contractors. Sheath is marked U.S. M8A1 also, but with V P Co marking on its upper metal, manufactured by Victory Plastics in Massachusetts during the 1950s. This bayonet, then, was manufactured some time between 1957 and 1975. It is period correct for any M-14 or M1-A rifle from that period, or for anyone who wishes to outfit their walnut-stocked M1-A with a bayonet. Sheath metal upper and point protector show extensive brown toning but no pitting, as the photos show. The bayonet’s finish only shows a minimal to moderate amount of insertion contact scouring on the high points and edges of the blade. We rate this bayonet and its sheath as a strong Very Good, perhaps even Excellent, Condition set. Photos, at any rate, should suffice for prospective owners to judge finish grade for themselves.
