Fox CE 12ga. ENGLISH GRIP, RESTORED, NICE! Guns > Shotguns > Fox Shotguns

This is a wonderfully restored Fox from 1915 that has been turned into a very versatile upland/sporting clays gun. From the bone and charcoal case colors, rich rust blued barrels, to the nicely figured English style stock with recut checkering, there is nothing not to like about this nicely balanced 7lb. 6oz double gun. The barrels have had Briley choke tubes added and due to damage during a hunting mishap, they have also been sleeved by Briley. With 5 thin wall choke tubes running from Skeet choke to Full choke, the gun is set up for all things shotgun.

The 30” barrels have mirror bores, .724 bore diameter, minimum barrel wall thickness of 38 thousandths, ribs are tight and the barrels ring, 99.5% blue, 2 ¾” chambers, ejectors, no dents, pits or scratches, really a new set of barrels. The original barrels were Krupp Steel, and the chamber area retains the original Fox stampings indicating their heritage. The engraving on the breach of the barrels remains original Philly Fox.

The receiver has the later style CE engraving that most Fox lovers find the most tasteful of all the Fox patterns and it is still clear and sharp. The double triggers are clean and crisp, the long tang trigger guard has 100% niter blue, the ejectors are strong and timed, the action is tight on breech face with 99% bone and charcoal case color, excellent screws, barrels tight on hinge pin with the lever right of center.

The wood is nicely figured and has quite a bit of fiddlback to enjoy. The straight grip and splinter forend team up with the long 30” barrels to make a graceful, racey looking shotgun. The checkering is near perfect, and the finish was recently restored to new condition. The LOP is 14 1/8 to the end of the butt plate, drop at heel 2 3/8”, drop at comb 1 ½” for great modern dimensions, no splits, cracks, or repairs, really a beautiful piece of wood.

The gun is not a high condition collectible, but a really great early Fox set up to shoot and use, and is priced accordingly. At just over 7 1/4lbs. it is a delight in hand, and with all the hand engraving and hand fitted action, you get a really high end shotgun that can handle modern ammo for a very affordable price. The gun is equally at home at the gun club as it is in the pheasant fields and it is a “looker”. The mechanics are excellent on this gun, as it was recently stripped to the bare frame, cleaned, inspected, and properly lubricated for another several decades of service.

There are more photos upon request. I have a 30 day mechanical warranty on this gun. PLEASE SEE MY OTHER FINE VINTAGE DOUBLES ON THIS WEBSITE.
