Description:
General Specs: Winchester, Year 1898, .30 WCF, 6lbs 13oz
Serial Number: 38391
The Winchester Model 1894 was the first lever rifle able to fire the high-pressure smokeless powder that came with the .30 WCF, also known as the .30-30. You can just imagine the look on the cowgirl’s face when her new special-order Winchester arrived. The gorgeous wood and fine factory finishes would bring jealous envy from all her family and friends. This rifle, Sn38391 built in 1898 and delivered in 1901, is a SPECIAL-ORDER RIFLE INSCRIBED “Miss M.B. Foley September 25th, 1900”, obviously ordered for a woman by somebody that new rifles. Special-order features include the takedown feature, extra light, pencil-thin barrel, Lyman #1 tang peep sight, Lyman #6 folding leaf sight, and as was usual with any special-order Winchester 1894, upgraded and nicely figured wood. The Lyman tang peep sight is a Second Variation with a “D” on the underside which is correct for the 1894 antique rifle. The Lyman #6 folding rear sight was commonly installed in conjunction with the tang mounted peep, as it needed to fold flat to the barrel to allow full use of the peep sight. This desirable antique Model 1894 is in REMARKABLE FACTORY ORIGINAL CONDITION with strong, 93% barrel blue, excellent bore with strong rifling, receiver blue mostly gone with a pleasing grey patina (it has not been cleaned or scrubbed), loading gate still has strong charcoal blue, and nice finish remaining on the wood. The screws are all in near perfect condition, there are no cracks, splits, or repairs to the wood, and all the lettering and stamps are crisp and clear. Most early M1894 rifles have been used hard, so when you find a 122-year old Winchester Model 1894 in nice original condition it is something to take note of. This is an opportunity for you to own a factory original special-order Winchester with very desirable features. This rifle weighs 6 3/4lbs. with its 26” extra light barrel, a pound lighter than a standard rifle and only a few ounces more than an 1894 carbine. The value of collectible Winchester rifles is in the original condition antiques with special-order features and unaltered in any way since leaving the factory. The Winchester Model 1894 is perfect for deer hunting in the wooded areas throughout the country and anywhere a true rifle with a 26 barrel is warranted. THERE IS A CODY FIREARMS MUSEUM INFO SHEET THAT COMES WITH THE RIFLE DOCUMENTING THAT IS ORIGINAL AND AS SHIPPED IN 1901 Don’t miss out on your opportunity. Thanks for looking!
