LG2595 Not since the Ithaca Mag 10 Roadblocker hit the presses in 1975 and fizzled a decade later has there been so much power offered in a tactical shotgun. Here is the best buy on the market for a Super Magnum Grade shotgun, the 870 Express Super Mag, realtree camo finish with synthetic stock and forend, set up with a Tac Star Parkerized High Capacity Magazine Tube and Blue Steel Clamp. The Super Mag 870 was introduced in 1994 through Remington technical advances in metallurgy that made the already strong 870 receiver even stronger. Then the master gunsmiths at Remington reconfigured and reconstructed the shotgun's bolt and ejector assembly so that it would handle 3 1/2 inch magnums with no problems at all. Remington added the 870 Express Super Mag to their line in 1998 under sales pressure from the honorable competitor 835 Mossberg. Here is a specimen from a special run of Advantage Camo Super Mags in 23 inch Vent Rib Rem-Chokes manufactured in November of the first year of production, 1998, from its RS date code. We have added Pachmayr's Tac-Star, all steel 3 shot extension and steel clamp to prevent damage to the main tube threads. No shotgun, apart from the fading 10 gauges, can compete with the 3 1/2 inch magnums. With 3 1/2 inch OO Buck, for instance, firepower delivery is roughly equivalent to an 18 round clip full of .380 ball ammo, all in one shot, with 18 pellets traveling at 1100 feet per second. Even more destructive at close range are the steel loads with, say, 100 pellets of BB Steel Traveling at 1550 feet per second. That is, at close range, roughly the equivalent of emptying two whole boxes, 100 rounds, of .17 HMR all in one shot. With 7 rounds of 3 1/2 inch magnum BB Steel, then, a person can expend the rough energy equivalent of 600 rounds of .17 in just a few seconds, and the steel shot both leaves diminished recoil and highly diminished ricochet possibility, since it runs out of steam at 50 – 60 yards. Factory specs on this Remington Shotgun itself are are: 12 gauge, 3 1/2 inch chambering with capability for any and all 12 gauge shotgun shells. Weight empty is 7 1/4 pounds. Barrel is 23 inch Vent Rib, Rem-Choke, and one Improved Cylinder Rem-Choke tube is included. Note that the rib is fully cleated on top, an improvement for visibility under high light and heat conditions. Overall length is a compact, fast-handling 44 1/2 inches. The synthetic stock, coupled with the Magnum-grade recoil pad, allows for maximum recoil absorption. Capacity with the Tac-Star setup is 8 rounds of 2 3/4 inch, 7 rounds of 3 inch, or 6 rounds 3 1/2 inch. This is the fastest handling, most dependable, and most reliable shotgun on the market. Replacement price on similar 870 Variants in our area is $600 or more. We’re offering this one, however, for only $ 339.00
