Back in the 1970s, our old teacher from Berry’s Trading Post in Corinth, Mississippi, always listed Colt Staglon grips made for the Colt Scout .22 Single Actions that were so abundant during the 1960s. The words Fit Most Any referred to the soft synthetic material, imitation stag, that those grips were made from. Those were relatively easy to modify with only a good sharp pocket knife, a drill bit, and occasional sandpaper. The Italian Walnut that these grips are made of, is a bit of a different animal, but with moderate amounts of skill and a good dose of common gun sense, these grips can be modified to fit Colt New Frontier .22 Revolvers and a whole host of Single Action .22 Colt Clones, most of which were manufactured first in Germany and Italy, then in Florida, and now marketed principally as the Heritage Arms Rough Riders. Most of the older revolvers will be labeled F.I.E. Buffalo Scout, Model E-15 in various finishes; or Excam TA-76 Buffalo Scout. Also included are the German-derived RG66, RG67, and RG68 revolvers. These grips are not, we emphasize, ready to install on those type revolvers. At the very least, a person will have to relocate the grip frame stud indentation. These are fine grips, however, as the photos show: genuine Italian Walnut, cut checkered, oversize target variants with thumb rest ridges and cut checkering. Finish is semi-gloss, and grip screws are included, of course. These grips are collectable in their own right. We found them sitting in an old Southern warehouse, and we estimate they were manufactured in the late 1970s or early 1980s. They were imported by Sile, Inc., of New York, one of Colt’s primary grip suppliers back in their revolver-producing heyday, late 1960s through late 1980s.
