BOSTON MASS. PAT'D MARCH 6 1860. This carbine HAS NOT been converted and has the ORIGINAL 22" six- groove barrel. The 1860 Spencer carbines were issued between 1863 and 1865 with a serial number range from 11,000 to 61,000. The serial number on this Spencer is 58,xxx. According to SRS books, it was issued to either Company I or M of the First New York Mounted Rifles. This Civil War Spencer carbine is in fully functional and with the proper ammunition can be fired. The two click lock is crisp and the action lockup is tight with absolutely no play. The tubular magazine is original, complete and functions freely in the buttstock. The bore's 6 groove rifling is strong and bright and shows no signs of pitting. This is the way I found it and did not attempt to clean it.The overall finish of this carbine is a dark patina showing lots of remaining blue. The buttstock and forend are in excellent condition with a beautiful finish, showing no cracks nor any repairs. No cartouches were visible. The Model 1860 Spencer carbine is one of the most highly collectable firearms from the Civil War. According to the latest issue of the Flayderman's Guide, it listed the price of this collectable at $1,850 in good condition to $4,000 in fine condition. I consider this Spencer to be very good to excellent condition and is priced to sell. Other Civil War era Spencers both private and in auction listings are selling for much more.
