The Ithaca 37 Parkerized Riot gun was a fixture for point men in many areas of Vietnam, and this one’s 371230000 range serial number dates its production to a significant year of that conflict, 1972. This 37 Featherlight parkerized spent its law enforcement career stateside with the distinguished officers of the St. James Parish, Louisiana, Sheriff’s Departments. It came into service in the middle years of the Honorable Gordon J. Martin, who served for a total of 40 years as Chief and then Sheriff of St. James Parish. The traditional 37 Featherlight Riots were popular in Military and Law Enforcement for several reasons. One of those reasons was that it had no disconnector; as long as the operator holds the trigger down it will fire as soon as a fresh shell goes into the chamber. That made the 37 the fastest firing shotgun on the market. This specimen is fully original and fully traditional. Finish is military grade parkerized; buttstock and serrated Corncob forend are plain oil finished American Walnut; barrel is 19 1/2 inch Police Cylinder with 2 3/4 inch only shell capability and period correct high post brass beadsight; capacity is 4 + 1 rounds; weight empty is only 6 3/4 pounds, over a pound lighter than the 870 competitor and this made these shotguns a favorite for soldiers. This particular specimen has extensive but moderate scouring to its receiver and its other surfaces. Top rear area of receiver shows some etchy browning, but the original parkerized finish is still quite strong throughout. We rate this 37 Featherlight as Good, perhaps Very Good finishwise, 60 to 70 percent by our estimate; photos, at any rate, should suffice for prospective owners to judge finish grade for themselves. Its only unoriginal aspect is that our friendly local gunsmith recrowned the muzzle on account of abrasions, and addressed three small recoil cracks in the buttstock so well that a person cannot tell they were there; and they will certainly never be there again. As far as replacements, there are none like these on the market any more. The 37 Featherlight M&P Parkerized like this one is unique, collectable, and eminently serviceable. Don't let your buddies use your account. Registered user must be the buyer, with his or her own money. Buying firearms and related items for other people can result in felony charges. Don't try, either, to circumvent any law; for example, a California civilian may not buy a high capacity magazine and have it shipped to his brother-in-law in Nevada. That is a felony.
GA Pay buyers are NOT charged until we confirm we have the item and are ready to ship it. The same thing is true for phone-in, fax-in, and mail-in payments. In this respect, and in several others, Guns America outshines all its competitors. This is the best firearms website there is, hands down.
