Many of us remember Steve McQueen in the Movie Getaway where he used a High Standard K-200 Eight Shot Twelve Gauge and a Gran Torino to deal very effectively with Dallas/Fort Worth hoodlums. Here is one of that shotgun's immediate ancestors, the J.C. Higgins Model 20, same action as a K-200 High Standard. This one, since its confiscation some time in the late 1970s, has served and protected our fellow citizens in nearby Gibson County, Tennessee, until its domiciled Department mustered sufficient funds to obtain Remington 870 Tacticals. This Higgins / High Standard is a 12 gauge, 2 3/4 inch Chambered, 20 inch Cylinder Bore with Vent Rib, down from an original 28 inch Modified. Buttstock and forend are original factory Walnut, and the forend is classic serrated corncob style found on many law enforcement shotguns. Finish is Good, generous original blue remaining on the slide bar, barrel, and trigger guard, with a brown and white receiver surface. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. We estimate that this Higgins model 20 Pump left the High Standard Factory in Hamden, Connecticut some time during the Johnson Administration, around 1. It is attractive, serviceable and historic.
