This revolver is a fine example of an original gun from the old west. Manufactured in 1885, this gun features the standard U.S. issue 7.5” barrel, and is chambered in 45 Colt.
Overall the gun is in approximately 20% Antique finish condition. Some original blueing is still visible under the barrel along the ejector rod housing.
Mechanically, the gun is in excellent functional condition, with only a slight “retard” in the timing, noticeable only when deliberately slowly bringing the gun to “cocked” condition.
The loading gate numbers do not match, which is very common among guns of this era. All other numbers on the gun are matching.
The grips are likely not the original grips for this gun, but are obviously of the era, showing the right amount of wear and shrinkage for a gun of this age.
The gun was a U.S. issue revolver, with the U.S. stamping, and the inspector initials present. The inspector for this weapon was David F. Clark, who did inspections for government firearms from 1861 until 1886.
