From its L904xx serial number, this barrel was manufactured in Late 1955 or early 1956. As late as the 1970s, many of us still regarded a Ventilated Rib as more an obstacle than an asset in the thickets and bean fields of West Tennessee and North Mississippi. We steadfastly refused to pay the extra $10 to get a Vent Rib on a Light 12 Browning. This is one of those die hard FN Belgian Barrels from that period, and it is still attractive and eminently serviceable in areas where resident hunters are still fortunate enough to have a good supply of game birds, including our local favorite, the Mexican Quail. This Light 12 Barrel has about 25 percent light white scuffing and scouring on its surfaces, so we rate it as Very Good finishwise. Photos should suffice for prospective owners to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore is Very Good to Excellent. Bore and chamber are bright and clean throughout, and there is a moderate amount of etchy streaking beginning forward of the chamber and going for about 12 inches toward the muzzle. The critical forward section of the barrel is bright, clean, and excellent, just as the chamber is. Muzzle constriction is .701, Improved Cylinder by Browning Standards, but Modified by Remington standards. This Browning barrel will work only on the Light 12 shotgun, not on the old Standard Weights.
