Originally developed as a joint venture between Switzerland's SIG and Germany's JP Sauer & Sohn to replace the Swiss service pistol, Sig P2xx series pistols are today generally regarded by top-notch law enforcement agencies as one of the most accurate, simple-to-operate, and easy-to-maintain side arms available. Professionals who carry them especially like their clear sight picture, accuracy, and legendary "To-Hell-and-Back" reliability. The P290RS is a new addition to this distinguished line, but in an innovative and radically slimmed down and lightened polymer format that yields the ultimate pocket pistol in a serious defense caliber. Small enough to fit into your palm, the P290RS sports super smooth, unbroken lines for concealed carry, but is still large enough for control and accuracy when shooting. This P290RS (ReStrike) features typical SIG type controls, including a US-style magazine release conventionally positioned behind the trigger, and a Double Action Only (DAO) trigger new for 2012. The new RS trigger does not require slide action to pre-cock it, and thus provides true re-strike capability in the event of a misfire, as well more consistent and smoother operation than the first generation P290's. The result is a gun that is hammer-fired with a consistent DAO pull, spec'd at 9 lbs for safety in the pocket. The trigger feels much lighter than it actually is because of the extremely smooth pull and crisp let off, typical of classic Sig pistols. Aside from the trigger and mag release, the only other control is a left-side slide catch. What this arrangement means is that the trigger is the only thing you have to worry about when you have to shoot fast, and it works the same way, first time, every time, an outstanding combat feature. Otherwise, this pistol is pure SIG with its robust and highly accurate lock up. This system is often emulated but seldom perfected to achieve the rock-solid barrel lock up and resulting accuracy that is the hall mark of all Sig pistols.
Finish on this P290RS consists of a black, polymer synthetic frame topped by a forged stainless steel slide with a subdued natural finish. Grips are roughly textured for maximum control, and inlet at the base for emergency mag removal. The barrel is hammer forged steel. The factory night sights consist of a bold 3-dot system built into a perfectly proportioned, low profile combat rear notch and front blade. This system provides one of the most natural and easiest to acquire sight pictures available on any handgun. The 2 (two) original Sig trademarked magazines are are very solidly built. One (1) 6-round, low-profile, “carry” and one (1) 8-round mag with an extended finger rest floor plate are included, as well as a extra low-profile, “carry” floor plate. The Sig Sauer holster is a polymer paddle design. The finish and overall workmanship and on this gun are outstanding, as one would expect from any Sig Sauer product.
